Dr. Gabor Maté: The uncomfortable truth about illnesses & childhood trauma

“There is one major source of illness – I am talking about any kind of illness, whether that’s so-called mental illness or physical illness – and that is childhood trauma. And this is true whether I'm talking about. And that seems like a very bold statement Just about everything, not everything but just about everything that we call illness begins is rooted in compensations."

After 20 years of family practice and palliative care experience, Dr. Maté worked for over a decade in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side (Canada) with patients challenged by drug addiction and mental illness. The bestselling author of four books published in over twenty-five languages, Gabor is an internationally renowned speaker highly sought after for his expertise on addiction, trauma, childhood development, and the relationship of stress and illness.

Being - personally and practically - familiar with the work and psychotrauma theory and method of Professor Dr. Franz Ruppert, Dr. Gabor Maté has been one of the few medical doctors who doesn't discount the connection between trauma and body reaction.

"I mentioned that I worked in family practice for 32 years, twelve of them with hardcore drug addicts, the other 20 in a straightforward family practice where I helped to deliver a lot of babies. And in palliative care where I helped a lot of people die - and everything else in between. And in those years I found that the people who got sick and didn't get sick they had certain patterns, certain characteristics that kept cropping up over and over and again till I just couldn't ignore it anymore."

Her further says:

"Now western medicine looks at disease from a particular perspective and you have to understand something about medicine: It's science, all right! But it's also ideology! And there's a difference in science and ideology. There's a lot of science in it and it's great science. But there's also ideology. An ideology is a point of view, as the Germans say: It's a "Weltanschauung", it's a world view that you're not conscious of. That you have hidden beliefs that you don't question. And people that question the hidden beliefs are seen as outliers or mavericks. And that's an ideology."

"And now we have the actual studies to show why and I'll refer to them later. So what I'm saying is that this awareness this intuitive awareness that you can't separate the mind from the body and you can't separate the individual from the environment it's not new in medicine. What is new is that now we have the science to actually prove it.

And what is remarkable and lamentable at the same time is that despite the scientific evidence, medical practice still doesn't take into account!"

But I - and all the people who have been trained in the Identity-oriented Psychotrauma Theory and the Intention Method - take it into account. We know that we have all been injured in our lives. And we also know how many of these injuries do happen within the first 1000 days of our life (starting with conception).

I know as well that illnesses can be a potential teacher - if we start listening to our inner voice and wisdom. And one of the best starting points is our body.

In my video compilation of two of his lectures, I've grouped the topics and separate them per illness. From ALS, multiple sclerosis to depression, ADHD and cancer.

If you are interested to learn more about how to access your inner wisdom, here is the explanation of how the Intention Method works.
